Computerized tests may better measure reasoning skills. Meris Stansbury. eSchool News. Online October 2007. … Critical problem-solving and information-analysis skills that cannot be easily measured on traditional pencil-and-paper exams may be revived through computerized tests … can be an effective way to measure so-called "21st-century skills"… two computer-based testing scenarios …a search scenario and a simulation scenario … scenarios were engaging, highly interactive, and open-ended so as to capture skills not tapped by multiple-choice tests. … Report: "Problem Solving in Technology-Rich Environments"

I am really interested with that subject. I have written a paper in 1995 about the cognitive reasoning for bilinguals and how to measure it. From my readings and searches in results of studies that were done earlier, it was really hard to be able to make a standard measurement for skills and intelligence and to be able to know what does affect them. It is a very hard project and there exist a huge number of variables in front of the researchers. I think we need similar studies and researches in Egypt to be able to use it in building curriculums and computer programs that suits our needs. In this research, they have reported that “significant differences in performance were found on one or more TRE Simulation scales for NAEP reporting groups categorized by race/ethnicity, parents’ highest education level, and students’ eligibility for free or reduced-price school lunch. No significant differences were found, however, for reporting groups categorized by gender or school location.” I am really surprised for the gender issue as I was last December discussing a similar subject in a round table in Educa-Online Berlin and someone had done a research in the medical sector and they found that there is a significant difference because of gender when they have done a change in a content by including a lot of pictorial illustration in it. Any way, these type of studies are very important and have to be taken into consideration in different domains.
